PSILOCYBE LARVAE was formed in January of 1996 by vocalist/guitarist Vitaly "Larv" Belobritsky in Vyborg. The first formation was involving also rhythm guitarist Denis Vinogradov, bassist Oleg Peshkichev with Eugene Ushakov on drums.
After the first demo "Liar" Psilocybe Larvae entered into professional studio in 2007 where the song called "Death Is Not the End" was recorded for "Russian Alternative Extreme Music" compilation released in 1998. Due to losing Eugene before recording, Ilya "Alan" Piyaev (Azeroth, Painful Memories) is supporting the group with a drum part.
Subsequently Eugene Golubkov (Metallization) was added as drummer, but he left the band in 1999, and old band's friend Alan has taken up drums duties in the Psilocybe Larvae line-up.
In summer of 2000 the band recorded a full-length album called "Stigmata" and released it in demo format. In December "Legacy" magazine called "Stigmata" demo of the month. A year later "Stigmata" was released by Black Side prod. on CD. The group re-structured once again though. In summer of 2001 Andrew stepped into the guitarist role and in autumn Den joined the band as keyboardist.
In autumn of 2002 Psilocybe Larvae took part in a Russian tribute to Manowar with a song "Blood Of The Kings" and recorded the song "Karma Of The World" for tribute to Chimera (Russian hardcore cult band). But the main event of 2002 was the recording of band's second album called "Agony". In the beginning of 2003 the album was released by Black Side Productions.
This year of 2004 was a very hard year for the band. There were big problems with bassist Oleg because of his alcoholic and drugs dependence. In December the group was forced to part ways with him.
In the beginning of 2005 both albums were re-released by one of the biggest labels in Russia called CD-Maximum. Albums were re-mastered at Remasters Studio by Mike Hall and included bonus tracks. After long searching Alex "Liga" Legotin (Torquemada, Mute Project) was drafted as a new bassist in summer of 2005 but after a few months there was made a decision to let him go. At the same time Den was kicked out as well. The situation was going from bad to worse and in autumn the band was forced to relocate in St.Petersburg. Dmitry "Chaos" Orekhov joined the group as keyboardist and Alex as bassist returned to the band ranks and at last the line-up was completed. So Psilocybe Larvae have turned the new page of their life. After a headlining "Triple Interaction" Ukrainian tour in autumn of 2006 the band entered DDT Records for the 3rd album recording in January, 2007. New album called "Non-existence" was mixed at Studio Hertz (Poland) and mastered at Cutting Room (Sweden). It was released in February of 2008 in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus via Moscow label Mazzar Records. In March the band headlined Russian "Non-existent" tour to support new album and took part in "Creative Breath of Death" tour of Belarus.
In 2009 Psilocybe Larvae have signed a deal with Dark Harvest Records for the "Non-existence" worldwide release.
So, there's a lot more metal to come...
